Pumpkin pie is something that doesn't last very long here in our house. As a matter of fact, it's something we enjoy long before the Fall season approaches! Then again, there's just something special about enjoying a slice of pumpkin pie as the weather dips (ever so slightly, especially here in Florida) and as we see a wider variety of pumpkins and pies hit the market. As we all know, however, this year is very different from previous years--many Fall Festivals have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, we decided to search the internet for the best pumpkin pies out there. To our surprise, we found something huge--literally and figuratively! We "found" the world record pumpkin pie! Let's "travel" to New Bremen, Ohio, to find out!
World's Largest Pumpkin Pie
The world's largest pumpkin pie hails from Ohio!
Who: New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers
What: 3,699 pounds (1,678 kilograms)
Where: New Bremen, Ohio, USA
When: September 25, 2010
Source: Guinness World Records
That's, HUGE!
This massive pumpkin pie was made during the 2010 New Bremen Pumpkin Fest in Ohio. It measured 20 feet in diameter and the crust was made of 440 sheets of dough and other ingredients, like canned pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice.
Impressive. Mind-boggling, even. That must have required TONS of custom engineering (and imagination), and--most especially--local community support!

Behind the Scenes: Baking A Massive Pie
According to this source, New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers used the following ingredients to create this record-breaking pie:
- 187 No. 10 cans of pumpkin
- 233 dozen eggs (2,796 eggs)
- 109 gallons of evaporated milk
- 525 pounds of sugar
- 7 pounds of salt
- 14.5 pounds of cinnamon
- 3 pounds of pumpkin pie spice
The 20-foot pie baked for 12-15 hours over the course of 2 days, in a special closed convection oven built using foundation blocks.
From what we've gathered, Arctech Fabricating (one of Southwest Ohio's Premier Certified Fabricating & Welding facilities) created the pie pan and generously donated all materials and labor. The custom pan consists of 20-foot sheets of aluminum attached to a hollow metal frame, with the ability to provide support for an estimated 5,000 pounds of pie! The design allows the pan to act as a giant radiator that cools the pie as it comes out of the oven. The local fire department assisted with hooking a truck up to the frame to circulate water to cool the pie filling (so that it will set properly).
Meanwhile, Susan Krieg, a local baker and owner of The Pie Shell, prepared the world record crust (using 440 sheets of dough), while Agrana Fruit prepared the filling.
Previous World Record Pumpkin Pie
In case you're wondering about the titleholder for the previous Guinness World Record for the largest pumpkin pie...
It was also New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers--and they did it 5 years earlier, in 2005.
Back then, they had set a world record for a pumpkin pie that measured 12 feet in diameter, weighing 2,020 pounds.
Looking Ahead
This year is New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers' 10 year anniversary from setting the world record. When we checked out their Facebook page, we learned that they'd unfortunately canceled this year's Pumpkin Fest due to COVID-19. You can scroll through their photos to find their 2010 event photos (here's one of them) as well as a photo of the pie pan they'd posted in 2017.
